From October 24 to 25, “the Third Academic Forum for Science, Technology and Society (STS) of Marxism” was held in NPU, which was co-hosted by Curriculum Development Office of NPU, School of Marxism, Society for Dialectics of Nature in Shaanxi Province and School of Marxism of Nanjing University, and was co-sponsored by the Editorial Office ofJournal of Dialectics of Nature, Philosophical Trends, Zhejiang Social Sciences,andFu Jian Tribune.More than 100 experts, scholars and representatives of outstanding graduate student from over 30 universities and research institutes in China, including University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Jilin University, Nankai University, Fudan University, etc.,conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges togetheron the theme of “the Transformation of Contemporary High-tech and Philosophy and Social Sciences”.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Chen Jianyou,Vice Chairman of Board of Trusteesof NPU; Professor Wu Kun, Chairman of Research Association of Dialectics of Nature in Shaanxi Province from Xi’an Jiaotong University; Professor Hu Zhiqiang, Chief Editor ofJournal of Dialectics of Nature; and Professor Hu Daping, Dean of School of Marxism of Nanjing University, delivered speeches on behalf of the organizers and co-organizers.Professor Wang Wendong, Vice President of Tianshui Normal University, delivered a speech on behalf of the next organizer.Wu Wenchuan, Party Secretary of School of Marxism of NPU, presided over the opening ceremony; Zhang Yunlong, Vice Dean of School of Marxism, presided over the closing ceremony; and Yang Yunxia, Dean of School of Marxism, delivered a closing speech.

This forum consisted of a keynote report and 7 theme reports.After the opening ceremony, Professor Li Bocong, Chinese Engineering Philosopher, delivered a keynote speech entitled “‘Engineering and Society’ as a New Field - from STS to STES”.After that, Lin Jian, Editor and Reviewer ofJournal of Renmin University of China; Wang Zhiqiang, from the Editorial Office of Marxist Theory of Social Sciences in China Press; Dai Daokun, from Periodical Office ofZhejiang Social Sciences; Liu Jun, from Periodical Office ofFu Jian Tribune; Tian Guanhao, from Jilin University; Zhong Zhenshan, from Nanchang University; and Wang Jinzhu, from Inner Mongolia University, presided over and commented on these theme reports.

Around the theme of this forum – “Science, Technology and Society of Marxism (STS)”, the experts and scholars have fully expressed their academic views and showed their research results from multiple perspectives and dimensions.They have conducted in-depth exchanges on the development of science, technology and society from the perspective of Marxism, and their different views were fully expressed, thus forming the analysis of theoretical problems and response to practical problems. Furthermore, the meeting procedure was reasonable and orderly, the meeting atmosphere was serious and lively, and the meeting content was substantial and novel.In his academic summary, Engineering Philosopher Li Bocong pointed out that this forum provided an important platform for in-depth research, mutual learning and exchange.All the participants were able to speak freely around the theme and share their research results with each other.In particular, it was worth mentioning that the heated debate was not only the highlight of this forum, but also the academic spirit that should be developed in the future.
It is reported that the “Academic Forum for Science, Technology and Society (STS) of Marxism”, Which was jointly sponsored by School of Marxism of NPU and School of Marxism of Nanjing University in 2017, has been successfully held for three sessions, and the fourth session will be hosted by Tianshui Normal University.
